Smart Way Express Detour

Due to construction on Stanger St. in Blacksburg, the Smart Way Express will be on detour starting May 17, 2021 until further notice. The end of the line has been moved from Goodwin Hall to the Life Sciences parking lot bus stop. The Goodwin Hall stop will remain closed during the detour. Temporary stops have been added at on West Campus Dr. and at Burruss Hall.

The Smart Way Express(SWX) is a commuter bus service operated by Valley Metro. The Smart Way Express connects the Virginia Tech main campus in Blacksburg with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute (VTCRI) on the Roanoke campus. Buses are equipped with WiFi. All buses are ADA accessible.

The service is available on a first-come, first-served basis (at no cost) to anyone with a valid ID from Virginia Tech, Carilion Clinic, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine or Research Institute, or Jefferson College of Health Sciences.

*** The general public is required to pay a four dollar fare.

Smart Way Express Bus Stop Update

9.28.2018 - The Smart Way Express bus stops at RB 26 and at Goodwin Hall have been temporarily relocated. The bus stop at Goodwin Hall will be relocated to turn lane at the intersection of Stanger St. and Godwin Hall Circle. The bus stop at RB 26 will be moved to the intersection of Kraft Drive and Research Center.
